at William Paterson University

Lab Member Spotlight: Jojo

How long have you been a part of the lab? I have been a part of the lab since September 2017.

What have you learned while working in the lab? By being a member of the Impulsive-Aggression Research Team, I have learned the process of recruiting and screening lab participants as well as how to examine physiological, cognitive, and psychosocial correlates of physical dating violence in college students. I have become well-versed in the administration, scoring and interpretation of the Stroop Test. In addition, through our lab article discussions, I have learned how to dissect and analyze empirical research.

What is your favorite thing about William Paterson's PsyD program and working in the lab? My favorite thing about the WPU Psyd Program is the flexibility and opportunity to work on various research and clinical projects with faculty and students. There are opportunities to work in areas of interest to you; present at conferences, and possibly work on publications. This has been a huge “plus” for me in the program. Working in the lab has allowed me to strengthen my research and analytical skills. On top of that, I have met some amazing people that I now call “friend”!

Where are you at for externship and how is it going? I am currently on externship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center - Metropolitan Regional Diagnostic Treatment Center (RDTC) General Track. I provide trauma-informed individual therapy to, and conduct forensic psychosocial evaluations of children and adolescents who have experienced some sort of abuse and/or maltreatment (e.g., sexual abuse, physical abuse, community violence). My experience thus far has been very rewarding and fulfilling. It is a privilege to be able to work with this population and I am happy I am gaining this experience.

What is a fun fact about yourself? One is that I have lived in three continents (Africa, Europe and North America).
